Arts Education for Sustainable Development
A showcase of projects
Addressing UN Sustainable Development Goals through Arts Education: A Call for Submissions
The UNESCO Chair in Arts and Learning at Queen’s University, in partnership with the Canadian Society for Education through Art (CSEA/SCÉA), is collecting submissions of arts education projects for an online showcase starting in June 2024. The aim of this showcase is to highlight arts learning experiences and teaching practices from across Canada and worldwide that address one or more of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Building on the examples collected for the Arts for Transformative Education guide, this is an opportunity to celebrate student work and to inspire and share ideas with colleagues. The project showcase will be hosted on the Arts Research Collective website here and will be promoted through digital and social media associated with the UNESCO Chair and CSEA/SCÉA.
What are the SDGs?
From the United Nations website:
“The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.”
The 17 SDGs are listed as follows:
